Begin each new day with words of cheer. Get to work early...but have a big lunch. Count on yourself to take care of your cow. Whistle through life. Don't Wine. Marry for love... Own your own truck. Laugh When you can. Have a Dog. Love the rain as well as the sun. Plant in the spring giving thanks. Jody Bergsma |

| O.K. Veggie Gardeners ~ let's talk about this weather, shall we?
El Nino continues to wreak havoc on our gardening plans...I'm told that this ocean current combined with the ash in the atmosphere from a few volcanoes has made the rain the jet stream has been slinging at us even more intense. The good news is that weather trends over the last 5 years are on our side that both the sun and the heat of summer will come. We seem to have inherited warm winters (with a few exceptions), late springs, and summers that last beyond late september. (to read more on this Click Here!) . Chin up! It really is not too late! The ground has warmed, temperatures are moderating. There is still time! We have all summer and into fall for growing and harvesting. If your vegetable beds are too wet, regain a little time by starting some seeds indoors or stop into the nursery and pick up some veggie starts. We still have an extensive selection of both traditional and heirloom vegetable starts to peruse from. In the meantime, check out the links tab on our Facebook Page for both traditional and innovative gardening tutorials. My favorite is a video montage of the creation of a traditional Potager Kitchen Garden set to music - very inspirational! Resort to container gardening...Plant up a pot of Herbs and put it next to the BBQ or back door, mine are loving this rain and growing like crazy...I'm a bit over run with cilantro, arugula, and my new favorite Sorrell (tastes like lemon, great in salads, soups) - everbody but the Basil is happy, it just sits there with it's arms crossed pouting, but I know it's growing roots so it's ready when Mother Nature finally throws the switch! Remember, we are here to make sure your are sucessfull in your gardening endeavors and look forward to serving you! (even in the rain!) |
