Warm Weather Veggies have arrived...( and the Warm Weather is on it's way...It's GOTTA be right?) A few tidbits to remember when you are planting ~ Start with your Dirt! Incorporating organic material into your soil will really increase your sucess! We have either Organic Compost or Organic Fish Compost available in bulk, mix either one with our Garden Mix Topsoil for great results. For Raised Beds or Container Gardening,a mix of our Gardener & Bloome(TM) Harvest Supreme (which is specifically designed for Veggie Gardens) and Planting Mix is a winning combination - both are on Sale throughout the month Buy 3, Get 1 Free! Adding alfalfa meal (inexpensive in both boxed and lg bags) and Garden Pearls pellitized lime ( also really inexpensive) to established gardens before you plant will add high nitrogen organic material and calcium important in avoiding blossom rot and improving fruit set especially on tomatos. Dr. Earth's Tomato & Vegetable Fertilizer is an organic blend of fish bone meal, feathermeal, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, soft rock phosphate, mined potassium sulfate, seaweed extract and Pro-Biotic(TM) strains of beneficial soil microbes with ecto & endo mycorrhizae. Consider companion plantings for natural insect control..Marigolds around veggie garden to detour tomato hornworms, Mexican bean bettles, squash bugs, thrips, whiteflies...Peppermint to repel ants, white cabbage moths, aphids, and flee beetles (put it in a pot or it will be everywhere!), Garlic discourages aphids, fleas, Japanese bettles, and spider mites, and Chives repels aphids and spider mites. Planting certain vegetables next to each other give off chemicals and micronutrients that the other needs...i.e. Tomatoes w/Cabbage, Carrots, Celery, Parsley, Onions - Peas w/beans, Corn, Carrots, Cucumbers, Radishes, Turnips - Spinach w/Celery, Eggplant, Cauliflower - Lettuce w/arrots, Cucumbers, Onions, Radishes.
